SERVICES AT ARTHRITIS AND RHEUMATIC DISEASE ASSOCIATES, PC

PATIENT CARE

Our primary mission at Arthritis and Rheumatic Disease Associates, P.C. (ARDA) is  providing excellent patient care to patients with arthritis and rheumatic diseases.  Dr.Stahl is board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and is recognized locally and nationally for his knowledge and skill in treating patients with rheumatic diseases.  Our support staff has had decades of experience in the field of rheumatology and are essential partners in the delivery of progressive and compassionate care.

OSTEOPOROSIS EVALUATION CENTER

Since 2000, the Osteoporosis Evaluation Center (OEC) has been evaluating fracture risk in patients with the combined use of bone mineral density (DXA) testing and clinical fracture risk assessment, providing patients and their referring physicians with a comprehensive evaluation report.  Dr. Stahl, Director of OEC, is a certified clinical densitometrist (CCD) recognized by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry and our DXA technician is certified by the same organization.  Both Dr. Stahl and the technician are committed to accurate studies performed with the highest standards of precision.

CLINICAL TRIALS

ARDA offers our patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials of exciting new drugs for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and other rheumatic diseases.

These trials allow patient to receive treatments which are not currently available to the public and patients to receive free care for the duration of the clinical trial.

INFUSION

ARDA has an infusion room specifically designed for patients who require intravenous infusion of biologic and non-biologic medications for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis, inflammatory bowel disease, osteoporosis and osteopenia (low bone mass).  Our infusion nurse has a rare combination of skill (a former ICU nurse), experience and a wonderful positive personality.  Patients look forward to getting their infusions!

MUSCULOSKELETAL ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound is a tool that has been around for decades and allows us, with ultrasonic sound waves, to image the body in ways not afforded by x-rays, CT scans or even MRIs. Up until recently, this tool has been used by radiologists, cardiologists and OB-GYNs. More recently, rheumatologists have been using this tool to aid in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal diseases and to guide us when aspirating and injecting joints. We at ARDA have incorporated musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) into our practice to observe joints, tendons, muscles and soft tissue to help in the diagnosis of rheumatic diseases. We can detect "fluid" in the joint and using an application called power Doppler, we can detect "inflammation" in the form of small blood vessels in muscles, tendon insertions and joints. We also use ultrasound to guide the aspiration and injection of joints, bursae, nerves and tendons, making these procedures safer, more accurate and more comfortable. It also allows us to inject joints, such as the hip, which requires real-time imaging to help guide the needle. This previously had to be done in the hospital or x-ray facility under fluoroscopy. This can now be performed in our office without any x-ray exposure. This tool has allowed doctors and their patients to more fully understand their diseases and enhances the experience for both.
